2021 Money and Banking Conference
The BCRA launches the 2021 Money and Banking Conference. Under the title Macroeconomic Conditions, Growth and Distribution. Underlying Problems of the Global Economy and Lessons from the Pandemic, the Conference will feature lectures from academics, representatives of international organizations and presidents of central banks in the region.
The Conference will also include presentations from Martín Guzmán, Minister of Economy of Argentina, and Miguel Ángel Pesce, BCRA's President, who will also deliver the opening lecture.
The Money and Banking Conference will consist of online seminars with four discussion panels to take place on November 3, 10, 17 and 24. The topics will revolve around the following titles: Fiscal policy, Growth and Inequality; Monetary and Financial Policies, Macroeconomic Stability and Development; Rethinking the Role of Central Banks; and, Underlying Problems of the Global Economy and Lessons from the Pandemic (closing lecture). The first panel will be broadcast at 10 am. The speakers are the following; Barry Eichengreen (George C. Pardee and Helen N. Pardee Professor of Economics and Political Science at the University of California). Public Debt in Historical Perspective.
Özlem Onaran (Professor of Economics at the University of Greenwich and Co-Director of the Institute of Political Economy, Governance, Finance and Accountability). Public Investment and Tax Policy under a New Social Contract for Sustainable and Equitable Post-Pandemic Development.
Mark Setterfield (Professor of Economics at The New School for Social Research). Neoliberalism: An Entrenched but Exhausted Growth Regime.
The Economic Research Deputy General Management Office of the BCRA led by Germán Feldman, Economic Research Deputy General Manager, is responsible for the organization and the coordination of panels.
The Seminars will be broadcast live, open and free of charge. This will allow lectures to have a greater audience from all over Argentina and the region.
The 2021 Money and Banking Conference has a digital platform that gathers relevant information (program and speakers´ bios and topics) so that people may have access to the different discussion panels. Presentations will be uploaded to the website every Wednesday of November and will remain available at the platform for the public to have access at any time.
Like all other academic and outreach initiatives of the BCRA addressed to a wide audience, the Conference seeks to stimulate discussion on macroeconomic, monetary and financial topics.
