The Museum of the Central Bank Reopens and Releases the 360° Virtual Tour

Héctor Carlos Janson Numismatic and Historical Museum opens the 360° virtual tour that allows visitors—through any device with Internet access—to explore every room and get to know the permanent collection on the history of Argentina through its banknotes and coins. To enhance visitor's experience, the virtual tour is also available in virtual reality format (VR hardware is required).

The Museum 360° Tour displayed at the BCRA’s website allows everyone to access the largest collection of coins in Argentina, and to become familiar with part of the historical heritage of the country.

From anywhere and at any time, visitors can explore the Museum virtually and be welcomed by director Mabel Esteve who will show the contents available in accordance with the visitors’ interests and time availability.

This way, visitors may access the history of the Museum and its building, erected in 1862 and declared National Historical Monument in 2005. Moreover, visitors can explore the central hall of the building and the Treasures of the Sea collection that has Spanish American cob coins and artifacts found in shipwrecks between the XVI and XIX centuries.

Visitors can also explore the six rooms that hold the permanent collection of the Museum, which exhibits the goods used as a means of payment by native peoples, the “macuquinas” coins (hammered coins), the pieces of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, the first national coins, the first coins and banknotes issued by banks operating in Argentina, and all the banknotes of the monetary lines from the beginning up to the present, among other pieces of great numismatic and historical value.

The Museum reopened its doors to the public and may be visited at San Martín 216, City of Buenos Aires, Mondays through Thursdays, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
