Summary

In the third quarter of 2024, net foreign direct investment inflows in Argentina totaled USD 2,395 million, explained by the reinvestment of profits of USD 1,151 million, capital contributions of USD 669 million, net income from debt transactions of USD 572 million and mergers and acquisitions of USD 4 million.

The sectors that attracted the highest FDI flows in the third quarter of 2024 were: “Deposit-taking companies, except the central bank”, with USD 871 million; “Mining and quarrying”, with USD 718 million and “Manufacturing industry”, with USD 371 million.

The main source of FDI flows was Spain, with net inflows of USD 788 million, followed by Brazil with USD 589 million. Then came the United States, with USD 267 million, China, with USD 191 million and Chile, with USD 130 million.

The gross passive position of FDI reached USD 171,795 million as of 30.09.24, with equity participations of USD 115,552 million, and debt instruments of USD 56,242 million.

The United States was the main origin of FDI in Argentina, with a stock of USD 28,875 million as of 09/30/24, which represented 17% of the total holdings. In second place was Spain, with a gross passive position of USD 26,562 million (15% of the total), and in third place was the Netherlands, with USD 20,100 million (12% of the total). These three countries accounted for 44% of the FDI stock in Argentina.
