After two years without traveling across the country, the BCRA Painting Award resumes the itinerant exhibition with the 39 finalist works of the XIV 2021 National Painting Award with the Great Prize for Distinguished Artists Los muchachos peronistas (The Peronist Boys) by Sara Facio.
This exhibition may be visited until December at the Puente Blanco Cultural Center, in the Province of San Luis. In September, the itinerant exhibition was previously held at the Eliana Molinelli Contemporary Art Center in the Province of Mendoza.
Sara Facio’s Los muchachos peronistas (The Peronist Boys) is part of the series Funerales del presidente Perón (Funerals of President Peron) taken in 1974 for the graphic media. The series gathers two characteristics of Facio’s work: the testimonial record and the portrait. All these photographs show Sara’s unique perspective on this historical event, showing the human dimension of the event with persons that challenge the camera or anonymous gestures that expose their feelings.
The XV 2022 BCRA National Painting Award is currently at the evaluation stage. The jury, composed of Joaquín Barrera, Dolores Casares, Hugo Petruschansky, Mercedes Reitano and Patricia Viel, has already selected 36 semifinalists.
The fourteen editions of the BCRA National Painting Award have gathered more than 10 thousand artists to date. With this initiative, the BCRA has acquired more than 100 works for the BCRA Collection, which includes works by Clorindo Testa, Carlos Alonso, León Ferrari, Gyula Kosice, Julio Le Parc, Liliana Porter, Alejandro Puente, Luis Felipe Noé, Marcia Schvartz, Luis Tomasello, Margarita Paksa, Josefina Robirosa, Elsa Soibelman and Sara Facio, among others. This collection, which is part of Argentina’s artistic heritage, stands for our culture and identity.
