The BCRA reminds financial service users of the electronic payment options available for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Electronic channels such as online banking, mobile banking, and ATMs will operate as they usually do on public holidays. Users may conduct, through these channels, the following:

  • Payments by transfer through QR codes
  • Instant transfers
  •  Money transfers
  • Transactions on debit cards
  • Credit cards

Additionally, the Federal Administration of Public Revenue (Administración Federal de Ingresos Públicos, AFIP) has extended for six months the reimbursement of payments made by lower income sectors using debit cards. This applies to anyone drawing the lowest pension or retirement benefit, the universal child allowance (AUH) or the universal pregnancy allowance (AUE). This reimbursement cannot exceed ARS1,200 per month per beneficiary. For AUH beneficiaries with two or more children the maximum amount will be ARS2,400 per month.

The BCRA has further adopted all necessary measures to ensure that financial institutions have banknotes available for ATM refilling in order to meet the demand for money during those days.

In addition, non-bank cash withdrawal points will be in operation in supermarkets and pharmacies, among other stores. Finally, bank branches across the country will be closed to the public tomorrow, December 24, due to Christmas holiday in Argentina. They will also be closed next Friday, December 31.
