Changing damaged banknotes in banks

Where you can make the switch

All banks must exchange damaged or fragmented banknotes to any person, whether or not they are customers of the entity.

When the bank should change them at the time

If the banknote has more than 60% of its surface area healthy, the bank must exchange it on the spot for another banknote or credit the amount to your account.

What happens if the deterioration is greater

If the banknote is more damaged:

1) You can show up at any bank with all the available fragments and the evidence that the deterioration was accidental.

2) The bank must receive the banknotes and send everything to the Central Bank for verification.

3) The BCRA laboratory analyzes the material.

4) If it confirms the integrity of the banknotes, the BCRA credits the approved amount to the bank.

5) The bank, in turn, gives you the money or credits it to your account for the approved value.

Keep in mind that the BCRA only changes banknotes of the Argentine legal tender, not foreign currency.
