Recognition for the BCRA’s regulatory system

Argentina is among the third countries with the highest standards in this area.

The European Commission incorporated the Central Bank as an equivalent Supervisor in terms of European standards.

The European Commission recognized that Argentina has requirements equivalent to those of the European Union (EU) in terms of the prudential and supervisory framework in order to weigh the risk of the financial system.

This decision will allow EU banks to apply more favourable and proportionate capital treatment for exposures to credit institutions and certain exposures located in the country.

Argentina’s incorporation into this regime is based on an evaluation mechanism that began in 2018. This process was reviewed by a delegation of the European Banking Authority (EBA) in Buenos Aires and then a positive final report from that Authority.

This recognition by the European Commission on the regulatory framework for the Argentine banking system is reserved for third countries with the highest standards in this area.
