The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic published the monthly report on the status, outlook and evolution of retail means of payment in the country.

Summary

The month of analysis is July 2025, except for withdrawals, credit cards, debit cards and transport cards that the information corresponds to June 2025 and prepaid cards that include the data available as of June 2025.

Money remittances (immediate “push” transfers): reported a growth in amounts of 21.5% y.o.y.

In pesos: 635.8 million transactions were registered for $ 69.2 billion, which imply year-on-year increases of 21.5% and 17.4%, in quantities and amounts respectively. 75.5% had a CVU as their origin and/or destination.

In foreign currency: 1.9 million operations (11.8% YoY) were registered for USD 2,923.8 million (39% YoY).

Money deposits (immediate “pull” transfers): reached 41 million operations.

41 million transfers were made for $ 3.6 billion, representing an increase of 3.8% in amounts and 6% in amounts compared to June.

Interoperable payments with transfer (PCT): QR reached 67 million transactions.

68.4 million operations were carried out (30.5% YoY) for a total of $1,346.2 billion (40.7% YoY).

-QR

: 97.9% were initiated with QR codes, representing 67 million payments (39.7% YoY) for $1,307.7 billion (53.8% YoY). 55.1% were made by customers who used their demand accounts and 44.9% their payment accounts. Likewise, 42.7% of businesses credited demand accounts and 57.3% payment accounts.

Currently, 78 interoperable digital wallets and 48 PCT acceptors are registered with the BCRA.

-With random keys

: 2.1% used a token for their startup; These are 1.4 million operations (-68.4% YoY) for $38.6 billion (-63.8% YoY).

Payment accounts and funds invested through PSPCPs:

In June, out of a total of 62.3 million accounts, 14.3 million payment accounts had a balance for a total of 626.6 billion pesos, while the balances invested in FCI of money reached 5.5 trillion pesos. Both concepts, considered together, represent 6.3% of the total deposits in pesos of the private sector, which was $ 95.8 billion in the aforementioned month. At present, 192 PSPCPs are incorporated into the registry.

Direct debit:

12 million debits (-3.4% YoY) were made for $1.6 trillion (17.5% YoY), with an effectiveness rate that reached 48.2%.

Cheques: 80.7% of the amounts cleared correspond to ECHEQ.

5.5 million checks (physical and electronic) totaling $20.4 billion were cleared. ECHEQ’s share of the total number of cleared persons reached 56.7% in quantities (3.1 million electronic checks) and 80.7% in amounts ($16.4 billion).

Rejections for reasons of “insufficient funds”: the ratio to the total number of compensated reached 1.4% in quantities and 1.1% in amounts.

Cards: Debit card usage surpassed credit cards.

Debit: 175.9 million transactions were made for $4.5 trillion, with variations of -31.5% YoY in amounts and -27.7% YoY in amounts.

Credit: year-on-year variations of 12.9% in amounts and 14.1% in amounts were observed, with 173.5 million payments being made for $8.9 trillion. The most used channels were automatic debit with 14.6%, e-commerce with 36.4%, and POS and QR with 38.6%, of which 10.2 percentage points correspond to interoperable QR. The one-payment modality represented 85.8% in quantity and 61.1% in amount.

Prepaid card: 34.1 million payments were made for $587.7 billion, which represents increases of 23.4% and 18.6% YoY, in amounts and amounts respectively.

Prepaid transport cards:

361.6 million trips (6.6% YoY) were made using the SUBE card, totaling $141.9 billion (24.3% YoY).

Electronic Invoicing for MSMEs (FCEM): In the month of analysis, 87.5% of the operations were carried out in pesos, entering the open circulation system (SCA) 64.1 thousand invoices for $ 1.2 billion.

Extractions: 89% of withdrawals were made from ATMs.

ATMs: 57.5 million withdrawals were made from the 17,803 ATMs for a total of $4.1 billion, with the average number of withdrawals at each ATM being 3,228 operations during the month of June. The average withdrawal amount reached $70.9k.

Extrabank debit cards: 4.2 million withdrawals for $221.5 billion, with an average amount of $52.8 thousand.

Extrabank withdrawals from intra-PSPCP (“closed loop“) payment accounts: 2.8 million withdrawals for $157.4 billion, with an average amount of $55.7 thousand.
