Monthly report that analyzes the state and evolution of retail means of payment.

Summary

The month of analysis is August 2025, except for withdrawals, credit cards, debit cards and transport cards that the information corresponds to July 2025 and prepaid cards that include the data available as of June 2025.

Money transfers (immediate “push” transfers): reported a growth in amounts of 21% y.o.y.

In pesos: 647.7 million transactions were registered for $ 68.1 billion, which imply year-on-year increases of 21% and 17%, in quantities and amounts respectively. 76.1% had a CVU as their origin and/or destination.

In foreign currency: 1.8 million operations were registered (2.5% YoY) for USD 2,643.2 million (11.4% YoY).

Money inflows (immediate “pull” transfers): reached 39.7 million operations.

39.7 million transfers were made for $ 3.5 billion, representing a decrease of -3.3% in amounts and -4.4% in amounts compared to July.

Interoperable payments with transfer (PCT): QR reached 69.9 million transactions.

71.4 million operations were carried out (45.8% YoY) for a total of $1,391.3 billion (57.1% YoY)

QR:

-97.9% started with QR codes, which represents 69.9 million payments (57.1% YoY) for $1,351.5 billion (73.4% YoY). 55.5% were made by customers who used their demand accounts and 44.5% their payment accounts. Likewise, 43% of merchants credited demand accounts and 57% in payment accounts.

Currently, 78 interoperable digital wallets and 51 PCT acceptors are registered with the BCRA.

With random keys:

-2.1% used a token for their startup; These are 1.5 million operations (-66.9% YoY) for $39.8 billion (-62.4% YoY).

Payment accounts and funds invested through PSPCPs:

In July, out of a total of 52.2 million accounts, 11.4 million payment accounts had a balance for a total of 555.9 billion pesos, while the balances invested in FCI of money reached 5.6 trillion pesos. Both concepts, considered together, represent 6.4% of the total deposits in pesos of the private sector, which was $ 95.3 billion in the aforementioned month. At present, 191 PSPCPs are incorporated into the register.

Direct debit:

11.7 million debits (-3.5% YoY) were made for $1.6 trillion (17.9% YoY), with an effectiveness rate that reached 47.9%.

Cheques: 81.2% of the amounts cleared correspond to ECHEQ.

4.8 million checks (physical and electronic) were cleared for a total of $18 trillion. ECHEQ’s share of the total number of cleared persons reached 57.8% in quantities (2.8 million electronic checks) and 81.2% in amounts ($14.6 billion).

Rejections for reasons of “insufficient funds”: the ratio to the total number of compensated reached 1.5% in quantities and 1.2% in amounts.

Cards: Debit card usage surpassed credit cards.

Debit: 187.7 million transactions were made for $4.9 trillion, with variations of -16.8% YoY in amounts and -13.7% YoY in amounts.

Credit: year-on-year variations of 11.7% in amounts and 8% in amounts were observed, with 175.4 million payments being made for $9.1 trillion. The most used channels were automatic debit with 14.7%, e-commerce with 36.8%, and POS and QR with 38.7%. The interoperable QR represents 3.9% of the total number of credit cards, in quantities. The one-payment modality represented 86.6% in quantity and 62.1% in amount.

Prepaid card: 34.1 million payments were made for $587.7 billion, which represents increases of 23.4% and 18.6% YoY, in amounts and amounts respectively.

Prepaid transport cards:

349.7 million trips were made (-9.5% YoY) using the SUBE card, totaling $150.5 billion (9.6% YoY).

Electronic Invoicing for MSMEs (FCEM):

In the month of analysis, 87.3% of the operations were carried out in pesos, entering the open circulation system (SCA) 69.5 thousand invoices for $ 1.4 billion.

Extractions:

90% of withdrawals were made from ATMs.

ATMs: 57.2 million withdrawals were made from the 17,643 ATMs for a total of $4.3 billion, with the average number of withdrawals at each ATM being 3,242 operations during the month of July. The average withdrawal amount reached $75.1k.

Extrabank debit cards: 4.1 million withdrawals for $244 billion, with an average amount of $59.6 thousand.

Extrabank withdrawals from intra PSPCP (“closed loop”) payment accounts: 2.2 million withdrawals for $123.5 billion, with an average amount of $55.7 thousand.
