XI National Painting Prize | Inauguration

Tuesday, December 4, 2018

With works by established and emerging artists, the 2018 exhibition opens with the slogan: "Art belongs to you".

On Wednesday, December 5 at 6:00 p.m., the exhibition of the XI National Painting Prize will be inaugurated at the Museum of the Central Bank, San Martín 216, Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.

With the slogan “Art belongs to you”, the Central Bank proposes a tour with works by established and emerging, traditional and groundbreaking artists that invite dialogue by promoting inclusive access that brings the institution’s pictorial collection closer to the community, as the heritage of all Argentines.

The event will be attended by Margarita Paksa, who will receive the Grand Tribute Prize with her work “The city belongs to you II”. Margarita is distinguished by her career in conceptual art through the use of different materials and installations, where light plays a leading role. She was a precursor of video art and worked on the dematerialization of objects. Her first solo exhibition was in 1964 and she is one of the emblematic artists of the mythical Di Tella Institute, where she was directed by Jorge Romero Brest.

The exhibition will exhibit the 27 finalist works selected from more than 600 artists from all over the country by the jury made up of Marisa Baldasarre, Jimena Ferreiro, Nancy Rojas, Pablo Siquier and Eduardo Stupía and the winners of each category will be announced.

This year our award received the distinction “Patronage in the XXI Century” from pptArt for the sustained promotion of Argentine visual art since 2007. This award recognizes institutions that actively participate in the development of the arts and society in more than 28 countries and was received by Marcelo Cima, Argentine ambassador to the European Union, at the headquarters of the European Parliament, in Brussels.
