The BCRA has announced the names of the authors of the winning papers of the 2021 edition of the “Dr. Raúl Prebisch” Economic Research Annual Award. This year, 36 papers were submitted from all over Argentina.
The first prize in the PhD Thesis in Economics category was awarded to Nicolás Hernán Zeolla, for his paper Dimensión nacional e internacional de la financiarización en América Latina: un estudio en base a Estados Contables de Grandes Empresas No Financieras de 2000 a 2015 (National and International Dimension of Financialization in Latin America: A Study Based on Accounting Statements of Large Non-Financial Companies from 2000 to 2015). Hernán Alejandro Roitbarg obtained an Honorable Distinction for his paper Transformaciones productivas detrás del auge y el retroceso en los términos de intercambio del Siglo XXI (Productive Transformations behind the Boom and Setback in Terms of Trade in the 21st Century).
In the Young Professionals category, the first prize was shared by Ernesto Gabriel Pizarro Levi, for his paper Determinantes de la inflación: un análisis del caso argentino a través del Filtro de Kalman (2004-2020) (Determinants of Inflation: An Analysis of the Argentine Case through the Kalman Filter (2004-2020)), and Tomás Alejandro Carrera de Souza, for his paper Reassessing Sticky Price Models Through the Lens of Scraped Price Data. The second prize was shared by Carla Lorena Venosi, for her paper Impactos en los requerimientos de capital derivados de distintas definiciones de default (Impacts on Capital Requirements Resulting from Different Definitions of Default), and Lucas Gurovich, for his paper ¿Cuáles son los determinantes de las expectativas inflacionarias en Argentina? Un estudio empírico exploratorio (What are the Determinants of Inflationary Expectations in Argentina? An Exploratory Empirical Study).
In the University Students category, the first prize was awarded to Miguel Andino Plechuk for his paper El régimen de metas de inflación en un contexto de inestabilidad financiera: análisis de la experiencia reciente del régimen en Argentina desde un enfoque minskiano (The Inflation Targeting Regime in a Context of Financial Instability: Analysis of Recent Experience of the Regime in Argentina from a Minskian Approach); while the second prize was to Juan Goldin, for his paper Una Taylor rule para la Argentina (A Taylor Rule for Argentina).
The awards ceremony will be held online in the coming weeks.
“The economic research annual award represents the BCRA’s support for training economists committed to the study of macroeconomic, monetary and financial problems in Argentina,” said the BCRA´s Governor, Miguel Ángel Pesce.
The jury consisted of Jorge Carrera, Alternate Deputy Governor, BCRA; Germán Feldman, Economic Research Deputy General Manager, BCRA; Andrea Molinari, Researcher, National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas, CONICET) and Professor, Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA); Margarita Olivera, Professor, University of Rio de Janeiro; and Sergio Woyecheszen, Deputy Governor, BCRA.
“The papers received in the three categories proved to be outstanding, which sparked off intense discussion among the members of the jury, who found it difficult to choose the winning papers,” said Germán Feldman, Chief Economist of the BCRA and member of the jury.
The awarded papers will be published on the award section and will be considered for publication in the Ensayos Económicos (Economic Essays) journal.
