The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic presented the documentary “New Family of Banknotes: Native Animals of Argentina”, in a screening reserved for members of the BCRA, the press and special guests. It can be seen on the BCRA’s YouTube channel and will be available to be reproduced or projected freely.
The documentary, filmed in Full HD format and for which aerial and underwater images of natural environments were used, was in charge of specialists dedicated to portraying nature at its best. It was produced by Juan María Raggio and directed by Marcelo Viñas and brings together the life of each of the native animals in their natural habitat, which make up the new family of banknotes of the BCRA. The trailer for the documentary can be seen on our YouTube channel.
The documentary will be available on the YouTube channel, along with six short films that tell the stories of each of the animals in the new family of banknotes. The short films have as protagonists the hornero, the national bird and its habitat of the Central Region; the jaguar, in the Northeast Region; the southern right whale, in the Argentine Sea, Antarctica and islands of the South Atlantic; the taruca, in the Northwest Region; the condor in the Andean Region and the guanaco of the Patagonian steppe.
Like the banknotes, these documentaries aim to highlight the bounty of nature and emphasize the importance of preserving and promoting biodiversity. With the choice of native fauna and Argentine regions, the Central Bank seeks a meeting point where all Argentines can feel represented in the national currency.
To design its family of banknotes, launched in 2016, the Central Bank took into account various motivations and reasons:
-Celebrate life. Our fauna and flora are a representation of life and life.
-Emphasize the future more than the past. Celebrating life is looking to the future. We do not want to make a cult of what has already happened, because we are convinced that the best Argentina is the one that is yet to come.
-To move from solemnity to joy. The banknotes use bright colors, leaving aside the solemnity of monochrome. Joy is the way we choose to live our daily lives, why should our currency be any different?
-To vindicate federalism. Contrary to the centrality that is sometimes claimed in the political life of Argentina, these figures represent the entire national territory, far and wide.
-We are more than just men and women. Our country is much more than the society of men and women. We are plants, animals, soil, air, water; We have the responsibility to care for and preserve our environment and all its inhabitants in an integral sense. We are not alone in this world.
“All Argentines meet.” Banknotes are an everyday presence. That is why we chose a theme with which absolutely all of us feel represented and identified. Our new family speaks of the challenges that all Argentines have in the understanding that there is much more that unites us than what separates us.
After the documentary is released, each of the short films can also be seen through different dissemination channels. Aerolíneas Argentinas will screen them in the entertainment program on its flights. Public TV will also include them in its programming. The Ministry of Education and Sports of the Nation will add them to the contents of Connect Equality 2017 and the EducAr Portal. They will be screened at national and international events organized by the Ministry of Tourism of the Nation and will be included in the +Simple program, of the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
