How to recognize phishing attacks

The BCRA does not send emails requesting personal information or asking to upload such information to other websites for verification purposes.

A fake phishing email has been identified with the subject: “[Warning!] Please validate your personal data”. This email pretends to be from the BCRA, and it is sent from the following address, which does not belong to the institution: news@codigomontesco.com.ar.

What is phishing?

Phishing is a seemingly genuine email that is used to deceive the addressee and make them provide personal data.

How to recognize phishing attacks

1. Sender’s name | Most senders are unknown persons.

2. Sender’s email address | It seemingly looks like the real address; however, a letter may be added, deleted or replaced by a number, for example, bcra.net.ar (the right email address is bcra.gob.ar).

3. Subject and content | If it is an urgent matter requiring immediate action, or there is a threat of account closure or questions that make no sense, do not open the email, or click on the links or web addresses.

4. Links and attachments | Do not open attachments or click on emails from strangers.
