Buenos Aires, August 21, 2019. The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic invites Argentine and foreign plastic artists, with a minimum of 2 years of residence in the country, to participate in the XII edition of the Central Bank National Painting Prize. The period for receiving the material will be from August 21 to October 11 inclusive and applications will be made through the form.
The Jurors in charge of selecting and awarding the works will be: Carolina Antoniadis; Diego Perrotta; Viviana Usubiaga; Francisco Lemus and Andrea Elías. The curatorship of this Award will be in charge of Rodrigo Alonso.
The categories of participation are:
General
First prize | $ 225,000
Second prize | $ 150,000
Third Prize | $ 100,000
Under 35 years of age
First prize | $ 95,000
Second prize | $ 75,000
Third Prize | $ 50,000
To participate, each artist must complete the form with personal data, propose 3 original works not awarded in other competitions and with a date of realization that is not earlier than 2017, whatever their technique, trend or support and include a photo for each proposed work. The format and/or measurements of the accepted works are:
– Base (width) | Minimum: 70 cm / Maximum: 150 cm
– Height | Minimum: No requirement Minimum / Maximum: 200 cm
The selected works and the winners will visit different parts of the country during the following year, stimulating contact with the community and emphasizing the federal sense that the Prize has.
This edition will feature the recognition of the Grand Prize Tribute to the artist Josefina Robirosa who made significant contributions to the history of Argentine plastic arts, having gone through lyrical abstraction and figuration. She was Director of the National Fund for the Arts and a member of the National Academy of Fine Arts.
Since 2008, the following have won the Grand Prize in Tribute: Clorindo Testa, Carlos Alonso, León Ferrari, Gyula Kosice, Julio Le Parc, Liliana Porter, Alejandro Puente, Luis Felipe Noé, Marcia Schvartz, Luis Tomasello and Margarita Paksa; More than 7,500 artists have participated in the contest, and the traveling exhibition has toured more than 90% of the country.
The Central Bank National Painting Prize promotes Argentine contemporary art and brings the work of artists closer to the community. Thanks to this initiative, the Central Bank acquired more than 100 works that make up the BCRA Collection and that represent a network of culture and identity of the country.
