New composition of the Board of the BCRA

The new composition of the Board of the BCRA was announced.

Federico Sturzenegger, Governor

Federico Sturzenegger began his career in the public sector as Secretary of Economic Policy of Argentina. He then became President of Banco de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires and, subsequently, member of the House of Representatives. In the private sector, it is worth mentioning his position as chief economist of YPF, an oil company. He built up his academic profile as Teaching Assistant at UCLA, Professor and Dean of the Business School at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT), and Visiting Professor of Public Policy at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

He is renowned for his books on economics and several papers on international finance and macroeconomics. He was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and received the Konex award for this contribution to economic theory. He holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from Universidad Nacional de La Plata and a PhD degree in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Lucas Llach, Deputy Governor

Lucas Llach is a distinguished economist and historian who has devoted a large part of his professional career to the academic life. His main research field is the economic history of Argentina, a subject on which he wrote his doctoral thesis and several books and articles as well. He is a university professor. Llach was also the Director of the History Department and of the master’s program in Public Policy at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT). He obtained his PhD in History at Harvard University and his BA and graduate courses in Economics at UTDT.

Mariano Flores Vidal, General Manager

Mariano Flores Vidal served as Director for South America and as Head of M&A for Latin America and Iberian Peninsula in Thomson Reuters. He was Chief of Advisors to the President of Banco Ciudad, consultant in macroeconomics and finance, and advisor in economics and finance to the Argentine Senate.

He has taught Monetary Economics at Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA), and Monetary and Fiscal Policy at Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE). He has given courses on Monetary Economics at the BCRA, at IAE Business School and at Universidad Austral in Rosario.

He graduated in Economics from Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA) and obtained a master’s degree in Economics from Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT). He also attended a training program on International Financial Issues in Emerging Markets at Columbia University.

Pablo Curat, Member of the Board

Pablo Curat has devoted his professional life to consulting and management in the banking sector. He has worked for both public and private institutions, and was a consultant of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Bank (WB).

He is a former advisor to the BCRA and the Committee on Finance of the Argentine House of Representatives. His areas of expertise include: competitive analysis and bank strategies, bank regulation and supervision, opening of new financial institutions, development of bank products and services, restructuring of financial institutions, public financial aid programs for small- and medium-sized enterprises, as well as regulation and supervision of microfinance, just to name a few. He was one of the founders of the consulting firm Curat, Martínez Larrea & Asociados and has written several articles on the financial and bank industry for both local and international newspapers and magazines.

Pablo Curat was awarded an undergraduate degree in Economics by Universidad de Buenos Aires (1985), and has undertaken executive programs at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Horacio Tomás Liendo, Member of the Board

Horacio Tomás Liendo specializes in banking and administrative law. He started his career in the law firm Marval, O’Farrell & Mairal, and subsequently worked as in-house lawyer in several financial institutions.

He graduated as a lawyer from Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA). He was also awarded a Master of Laws (LLM) degree with distinction from Georgetown University. He attended the Management Development Program at the Business School of Universidad Austral (IAE).

Demian Reidel, Member of the Board

Demián Reidel’s career in the financial sector began in JP Morgan’s emerging markets research area. He was later in charge of the area of external debt strategy for emerging markets at Goldman Sachs.

He co-founded QFR, a financial asset management company located in New York, which is focused on global macro opportunities. In the academic field, Reidel was a professor of graduate courses in Finance at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT).

He holds a degree comparable to a B.S. and M.S. in Physics from Instituto Balseiro, a master’s degree in Financial Mathematics from the University of Chicago and a PhD in Economics from Harvard University.

Fabián Zampone, Superintendent of Financial and Foreign Exchange Institutions

Fabián Zampone graduated as a lawyer from Universidad del Museo Social Argentino (UMSA). He was Deputy Attorney General at the Office of the Attorney General of the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. He was Clerk of Trial Courts at the National Judicial Branch.

He held an executive position at Club Atlético Boca Juniors. He also ran his own law firm, specializing in civil, commercial and administrative law, and was a Professor of Commercial Law at Universidad Nacional de Lomas de Zamora.

Agustín Collazo, Operations Deputy General Manager

Agustín Collazo was Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, New York, in charge of international index options. Previously, he had worked in the Argentine financial market specializing in managing liquidity, assets and foreign exchange positions. He graduated in Business Economics from Universidad Torcuato Di Tella and obtained an MBA degree with Distinction from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Chicago.
