The process of leaving the 5-peso banknote from circulation enters its final stage. On the one hand, they can be used in all businesses and shops in the country for any transaction until February 29. On the other hand, they can be redeemed or credited to bank accounts until March 31. All banks, public or private, are obliged to accept them until that date.
Schedule of exit from circulation:
Until February 29, it can be used for any transaction in all businesses and shops in the country.
Until March 31, banks must exchange the 5-peso bills or credit them to accounts. You can put several together and exchange them for larger denomination bills.
The 5-peso bill – which is the paper that suffers the greatest deterioration because it is the lowest denomination – will be definitively replaced by the 5-peso coin.
Since August 2019, the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) has put into circulation more than 87 million 5-peso coins. Currently, there are already 138.3 million coins of this denomination in circulation.
On July 26, 2019, through Communication A6742, the BCRA ordered the exit from circulation of the 5-peso banknote. Likewise, on January 24, 2020, the Central Bank extended the calendar by one month to facilitate the process of exit from circulation (Communication A6877).
