New impetus for financial education through an agreement between the BCRA and the province of Chaco

The agreement signed by Miguel Pesce, head of the Central Bank, and Governor Jorge Capitanich seeks to enhance financial education and promote inclusion.
The president of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA), Miguel Pesce, and the governor of the province of Chaco, Jorge Capitanich, signed a cooperation agreement on financial education, in a ceremony held today at the headquarters of the BCRA. The agreement seeks to enhance the knowledge and skills of users and promote greater financial inclusion of the most vulnerable sectors.
The Central Bank has been developing a series of federal educational programs to bring financial education to the entire country. In 2021, in addition to this agreement, agreements were already signed with the provinces of San Juan, Neuquén and Santa Fe. These agreements are already fully operational and have aroused great interest in these territories, with a record participation of teachers and students. More than 1100 teachers have already registered, teaching more than 87,000 students, doubling the records of 2020.
“For us, it is essential to extend financial education,” said Pesce. The president of the BCRA referred to the modernization process that is taking place in the means of payment, particularly with physical money. “We are moving towards electronic systems and for that we have to prepare,” he said.
In this sense, Pesce mentioned some of the digitization initiatives launched by the BCRA, such as the ECHEQ and the conformed electronic invoices, which he defined as “a very important financing instrument for SMEs.”
“We have a challenge ahead of us, we are working on financial inclusion through education and, in this way, we contribute our grain of sand in the great objective of including and educating in our country,” concluded Pesce.
For his part, Capitanich expressed his gratitude for participating in the BCRA’s educational programs. “We are very interested in initiatives like this, in transforming the culture of use of financial tools by people,” he said. In this sense, he mentioned the efforts made by the province in inclusion through digital platforms. “The objective is to move towards a system of full banking penetration,” he concluded.
The event was attended by the Vice President, Sergio Woyecheszen; the Deputy General Manager of Financial Regulation of the BCRA, Daniela Bossio; the main manager of Financial Inclusion, Gastón Repetto; and the manager of Financial Education, Mariano Iglesias. Along with the governor, there was the president of the Nuevo Banco del Chaco, Federico Muñoz Femenia, and Sebastián Aguilera, president of Nuevo Chaco Bursátil.
Agreement with Chaco
The Agreement entered into with the province of Chaco has an extension of 3 years and establishes, among others, the following lines of joint action:
– Design, promote and evaluate actions aimed at students of the different educational levels.
– Promote teacher training programs both through virtual means and through face-to-face alternatives.
– Promote educational actions aimed at vulnerable sectors such as retired and/or pensioned people, beneficiaries of social plans, workers in the popular economy.
In addition, the agreement provides for the signing of complementary acts with the heads of the Ministries of Social Development and the Ministries of Education, Culture, Science and Technology of the Province of Chaco.
