International Polar Year 2007-2008
The fundamental objective of the International Polar Year is to produce an explosion of observations and scientific research, focused on the polar regions of our planet, which keep a record of the past behavior of the Earth system and have a leading role in relation to the knowledge of climate changes that have occurred through geological times.
This research is internationally coordinated so that the data obtained is shared by all scientists and laboratories, to continue deepening the knowledge of planet earth.
In order to disseminate the work being carried out by more than 60 nations, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the International Geophysical Year and the 125th Anniversary of the First International Polar Year, our country participated in the Official Program of Commemorative Coins of the International Polar Year 2007-2008, with the issuance of a silver coin designed by Mr. Carlos Pedro Rodríguez Dufour.
