20th Anniversary
The IX Ibero-American Series of Commemorative Coins, whose motto is “20th Anniversary”, is the result of a collective project that has twenty years of successful trajectory and in which our country has always participated. On this occasion, Cuba, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and Portugal also participate.
The design of this numismatic piece was carried out in the Treasury’s Strategic Planning Management -Numismatic Issues Sub-management- of this Institution.
Obverse motif
The central motif is built on two fundamental pillars, the linguistic one with the phrase Communion of Wills that expresses the synergy between the countries, and the image. It manifests the participatory spirit through the primitive iconography of man, imprint of his hands as a universal language arranged to compose a whole, the allegory of the tree, which represents the origin, development, growth and fruits of this numismatic program. It is surrounded by the text “20th ANNIVERSARY OF THE IBERO-AMERICAN SERIES” in the upper arch and “1992 COMMUNION OF WILLS 2012” in the lower one. On the outer border, a partiality of the motifs of the eight series broadcast is reproduced, evoking the uninterrupted presence of our country in the trajectory of Ibero-American series.
Motif on the back
On the reverse of the design common to all the coins that make up these series, the Argentine National Coat of Arms and the inscriptions “REPVBLICA ARGENTINA”, the face value “$ 25” and the year of minting “2012” can be distinguished in a central position. The X Ibero-American Series of Commemorative Coins, whose motto is “Cultural Roots”, is the result of a collective project that began in 1992 and in which our country has always participated. On this occasion, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and Portugal also participate.
The design of this piece, made in the Strategic Planning Management of Tesoro of this Institution, refers to the emblem of the native peoples and icon of ethnic and cultural diversity, the Wiphala. Its square structure, unlike Western flags that are rectangular, evokes: organization, harmony, solidarity, unity, equality, justice, integration, inclusion.
Obverse motif
The design translates into a geometric, symmetrical and balanced composition. In its central imprint it presents the Wiphala and the Argentine National Pavilion, symbolizing coexistence and respect for the first settlers, and the principle of equality. They are surrounded by the inscriptions X IBERO-AMERICAN SERIES on the upper arch, and CULTURAL ROOTS – WIPHALA – EMBLEM OF THE NATIVE PEOPLES on the lower arch. The Wiphala is made up of 49 squares, 7 per side, and its color palette alludes to the rainbow (yellow, orange, red, violet, blue, green and white). For each color, represented by graphics that are then translated into textures on the metal, there are 7 squares.

Natural Wonders
The XI Ibero-American Series of Commemorative Coins, whose motto is “Natural Wonders”, is the result of a collective project that began in 1992 and in which our country has always participated. This time the issue will be only for the international market and the countries involved are: Argentina, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru and Portugal.
The design of this piece, carried out in the Strategic Planning Management of the Treasury of this Institution, refers to the Calcareous Formation Serranías del Hornocal, located in the Quebrada de Humahuaca in the province of Jujuy, made up of different types of minerals that, when eroded, created a symphony of nuances on the slopes of the mountains. From the Mirador del Hornocal, at 4300 meters above sea level, you can see its triangular veins and its polychrome palette that some go so far as to claim that it reaches thirty-three shades, configuring one of the most dazzling landscapes in the Argentine territory.
The particularity of this series is the incorporation of color in the main design.
Obverse motif
The central design is the representation of the landscape accompanied by the text “SERRANÍAS DEL HORNOCAL”; in the upper corner it reads “XI IBERO-AMERICAN SERIES” and in the lower one “NATURAL WONDERS”. As a framework, the synthesis of an ancestral guard, typical of northwestern Argentina, can be appreciated, which also alludes to the morphology of the relief of the mountain range.
Motif on the back
Of common design to all the coins that make up these series, the Argentine National Coat of Arms and the inscriptions “REPVBLICA ARGENTINA”, the face value “$ 25” and the year of minting “2017” are distinguished in a central position.
