Defense of Human Rights
Human rights are inherent to every person without distinction of sex, race, age, religion, political party or social, cultural or economic condition.
In Argentina, between 1976 and 1983, the military junta that took power left thousands of people detained and disappeared as a result of the application of state terrorism.
In addition, hundreds of mothers and pregnant women were stripped of their children, who were deprived of the right to know their true identity. These events represented a clear violation of Human Rights.
In 1976 a small group of mothers and grandmothers decided to raise their voices before the world, identifying themselves with a white scarf over their heads. Since then, and even when various organizations in defense of Human Rights denounced these crimes against humanity, this scarf became the symbol par excellence of this struggle.
The issuance of this series of commemorative coins, “Circulation” quality in cupronickel, and “Proof” quality in gold and silver, is a tribute both to the victims of this genocide, and to those who for thirty years have been contributing their commitment, effort and hope in pursuit of MEMORY, TRUTH and JUSTICE.
Of the total number of pieces minted in circulation quality, 5,000 units have a smooth edge and are presented in cases with a brief historical overview and the characteristics of the issue.
