Centennial of the Discovery of Argentine Oil

Centennial of the Discovery of Argentine Oil

BCRA - Commemorative Coin 40 years of Democracy

On December 13, 1907, a soil drilling machine sent to the nascent Patagonian town of Comodoro Rivadavia, to search for water sources, found an oil table. This episode was notified to the Argentine Government at the time, which immediately afterwards declared it a zone reserved for its domain for the exploitation of hydrocarbons.

On the hundredth anniversary of the discovery of oil in the Argentine Republic, tribute is paid to those who made this event possible, with the issuance of commemorative coins “Circulation” quality in cupronickel, and “Proof” quality in gold and silver.

The design was made by Mr. Carlos P. Rodríguez.

Of the total number of pieces minted in circulation quality, 5,000 units have a smooth edge and are presented in cases with a brief historical overview and the characteristics of the issue.
