50th Anniversary of the Death of Eva Duarte de Perón

BCRA - Commemorative Coin 40 years of Democracy
On May 7, 1919, María Eva Duarte was born in Los Toldos (Province of Buenos Aires). At the age of 15 he began his artistic career, moving to Buenos Aires in 1934. Ten years later she met the then Colonel Juan Domingo Perón, whom she married in December 1945. After her husband’s presidential investiture, Evita began to play a very active role in the government, becoming the most loved by the working classes, whom she called the “descamisados” and whom she benefited with her work and political action. On July 26, 1952, at the age of 33, he died of fulminant cancer.

The occasion to honour his memory has been considered propitious, with the issuance of “Proof” quality coins in gold and silver, and “Circulation” quality in cupronickel. The design of these pieces was carried out by the plastic artist of this Central Bank, Carlos Pedro Rodríguez Dufour, and the minting was carried out by the Sociedad del Estado Casa de Moneda.

Part of the pieces minted in circulation quality, 5,000, are presented in cardboard cases with a brief biography and characteristics of the issue. The coins included in this type of case have a particularity, in this case they have a smooth edge, on the other hand, those that are presented in loose, grooved edge.
