150th Anniversary Coin Death of General Saint Martin

150th Anniversary of the Death of General Saint Martin

BCRA - Commemorative Coin 40 years of Democracy
General José de San Martín was born on February 25, 1778 in Yapeyú, Province of Corrientes. In 1812, the Grenadiers on Horseback squadron was formed under the same name of the hero who gave life to it and led it gloriously in American emancipation.

San Martín, throughout his military career, was at the forefront of all the great battles for Independence, achieving important victories such as Chacabuco, Maipú, San Lorenzo, Nazca, Jauja, Pasco and Riobamba, in which he reaffirmed the ideals of freedom.

One hundred and fifty years after his death, which occurred on August 17, 1850 in Boulogne-sur-Mer (France), this Central Bank pays tribute to the Liberator of the Homeland with the issuance of a circulation quality coin and a “brilliant uncirculated” quality Gold coin.

Part of the pieces minted in circulation quality, 5,000, are presented in cardboard cases with a brief biography and characteristics of the issue. The coins included in this type of case have a particularity, in this case they have a smooth edge, on the other hand, those that are presented in loose, grooved edge.
