The BCRA has issued a silver commemorative coin for the 40th Anniversary of the Return to Democracy

Monedas de uno y cinco pesos

The BCRA has issued a silver coin in commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Return to Democracy (1983-2023).

The obverse displays, at the center, an image of the Palace of the National Congress with the distinct green color of the imposing building's dome. The copper coating of the dome became green due to exposure to air over time. The year 1983, the commemorated date, and 2023, the year of mintage, appear next to the building. The upper arch reads “REPÚBLICA ARGENTINA” (ARGENTINE REPUBLIC) and the lower arch, “RESTAURACIÓN DE LA DEMOCRACIA” (RETURN TO DEMOCRACY). The Congress is a symbolic representation of the people.

The reverse shows the Argentine coat of arms and the face value, “UN PESO” (ONE PESO), surrounded by the legend “EN UNIÓN Y LIBERTAD” (IN UNION AND LIBERTY) above, with an exergue of laurel branches. This national emblem is the same as that used in the seal affixed to the documents of the Assembly of the Year XIII.

The coin is made of silver 900, has a diameter of 37 mm and weighs 25 grams. It has a reeded edge. The presentation includes: case, acrylic capsule, and certificate of authenticity.

The total issuance is 2,500 units minted by Mennica Polska S.A. The design was made by the BCRA's team. This coin can be purchased by clicking on the following link.
