Homage to the National Football Teams at the Museum of the BCRA

The “Héctor Carlos Janson” Numismatic and Historical Museum of the BCRA will participate in the 2022 edition of The Night of Museums on Saturday, October 22 starting at 7 pm.

In addition to the permanent exhibition—in which the Argentine history is told through the banknotes and coins that have circulated in our territory—this year an exhibition called La pasión que nos une (the passion that unites us all) is presented, showcasing numismatic pieces of the national football team’s participation in different World Cups.

A few weeks away from the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the exhibition brings back memories of epic matches, legends such as Mario Alberto Kempes, Diego Armando Maradona and Lionel Messi, legendary goals and unforgettable moments of the national football team, in which Argentinians have found common ground, as a symbol of our identity, since the first championship in Uruguay in 1930.

The exhibition, located at the Museum’s central hall, includes material from other national football teams, such as the women’s national team, the dwarf national team, the team known as The Bats—made up of people with impaired vision—and the LGTIBQ+ team called the Dogos, all of whom deserve to have a visible place in this sport. In addition, iconic moments and goals from World Cups will be screened in the auditorium.

The exhibition also includes material from the “Raúl Prebish” Library of the BCRA: microfilms of historical publications of the different national teams will be exhibited, as well as findings of the participation of women in football with images taken from books, newspapers and magazines published in the 20th century.

Other Proposals at the Museum of the BCRA

In addition to the exhibition La pasión que nos une, visitors will also be able to see Tesoros del mar (Treasures of the Sea) in the Mariano Lovardo Hall, which consists of an important collection of coins and objects from shipwrecks from the 16th to the 19th centuries.

The varied proposal of the BCRA's Museum in the Night of Museums 2022 also includes a retrospective exhibition of the National Painting Award, made up of the works of the Great Prizes for Distinguished Painters and First Prizes of different editions. The art exhibition is focused on the human figure and includes portraits by artists such as Marcia Schvartz, Carlos Alonso, María Gimena Herrera, Elsa Soibelman, Margarita Paksa, Adriana Minoliti, Liliana Porter, Albano Boj and Florencia Bothlingk.
