BCRA Launches Reported Checks API to Strengthen Financial Transparency

The BCRA makes available the Application Programming Interface (API) of Reported Checks, the second one in a series of public and free interfaces that allow interaction between programs and applications. The aim of this new tool is to efficiently share the information provided by banks operating in Argentina, thus helping to enhance transparency and security in financial transactions in the country.

The Reported Checks API can be used to find out if a check has been reported as lost, stolen, or altered, thus preventing possible fraud or scams. In addition, the API provides a list of all banks in Argentina with their codes to simplify queries.

This new API not only increases financial transparency but also represents a milestone in terms of efficiency and accessibility. The dynamic and streamlined interaction with the BCRA's databases reduces both costs and time associated with financial information queries made by market participants.

The launch of the Reported Checks API is part of the BCRA’s Open Finance strategy, which seeks to improve the flow of information in the financial system to promote inclusion and transparency. The BCRA will continue to expand this service with new developments, including the Exchange Rates API and the Debtor’s Database API, which will be available during the second half of 2024.
