1994 National Constituent Convention

In 1994, constituent delegates were summoned to amend the Constitution of Argentina, a significant event for the institutional life of our country. Within the framework of the meeting, the provincial Governors of Entre Ríos and Santa Fe requested that commemorative coins of legal tender be minted. These developments created an ideal context to resume the issuance of coins for numismatic purposes. This series, issued on November 21, 1994, comprises 6 coins:

Gold $25 | Gold $50 | Silver $2 | Silver $5 | Nickel $2 | Nickel $5

All the pieces were minted in two qualities: proof and circulation. Proof coins are presented in velvetex cases with different combinations of coins (a case containing the 6 coins, a case containing 2 coins—one of each METAL—and a case containing 4 coins—2 silver and 2 nickel coins).

Obverse design

In the upper part it shows the Argentine coat of arms and, at both sides, the names of the two host cities of the Convention, “Paraná” to the left, and “Santa Fe” to the right; below the names of the cities, the respective coats of arms. The upper arch reads “REPUBLICA ARGENTINA” (“ARGENTINE REPUBLIC”), and the lower arch, “CONSTITUCION NACIONAL” (“NATIONAL CONSTITUTION”).

Reverse design

It features the National Constitution as an open book where the first words of the preamble can be read: “NOS LOS REPRESENTANTES DEL PUEBLO...” (“WE, THE RESPRESENTATIVES OF THE PEOPLE...”) and a marker that represents a ribbon in white and light blue, the colors of our national flag. It also shows the nominal value “$2” and the opening date of the Convention “–25.V.1994–” in the exergue. The upper arch reads “CONVENCION NACIONAL CONSTITUYENTE” (“NATIONAL CONSTITUENT CONVENTION”).
