The United Nations developed a Coin Program in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of its creation (1945). The Program consisted of two collections: one from seven countries (Argentina, Belgium, Belarus, China, France, Russia and the United Kingdom) in gold, and another from thirty-six countries (Afghanistan, Armenia, Argentina, Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Belarus, Benin, Bhutan, China, Cuba, Cyprus, the Dominican Republic, France, Gambia, Ireland, Jamaica, Jordan, Kuwait, Latvia, Liberia, Luxembourg, Malawi, Maldives, Malta, Morocco, Namibia, Norway, Oman, Russia, Seychelles, South Africa, Spain, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Uruguay) in silver.
Although Argentina took part in both collections, the domestic sale of pieces was limited to national coins. Our country’s hope for peace is reflected on the design made by plastic artist Carlos P. Rodríguez Dufour, which shows the Argentine coat of arms, above which there is a dove, the universal symbol of peace.
